About CITIZEN
Count Goto Shinpei, the mayor of Tokyo, named the brand CITIZEN, meaning citizen, in the hope that it would be loved by citizens for a long time.

CITIZEN is one of the top three brands of Japanese watch. This CITIZEN pocket watch is based on the motto of simple faces and reliable craftsmanship.

It was the autumn of 1927. At a dinner party held at the former Imperial Japanese Army Kaikosha in Nagoya, Emperor Showa and I were enjoying coffee and chatting. As we happened to be visiting a watch factory in Aichi that afternoon, the topic of "whether domestically produced watches are accurate" came up.
One gentleman took out a gold-sided watch, which was popular at the time, and said with some pride, "Your Majesty, this is a foreign-made watch, but it fits perfectly. Japanese-made watches are somehow inaccurate and are nowhere near as good as foreign-made watches." In response, His Majesty casually took out a pocket watch from his right trouser pocket and showed it to the gentleman with a look of delight on his face, saying, "This watch of mine is a Japanese-made watch costing 12 yen 50 sen, but it fits perfectly."
The dimly shining silver pocket watch was the first watch made by Shokosha (now Citizen), which had been in business for less than five years at the time. The watch was not purchased at government expense; two watches were purchased by Michio Kinoshita, a renowned chamberlain, at the Yamazaki Watch Shop in Kyobashi when he was a chamberlain to the Crown Prince, one for his personal use and the other as a gift to His Majesty.
Excerpt from the 1963 edition of "Citizen Times," a document archived by Citizen Watch Co., Ltd.
Initially, the brand name of Shokosha was Citizen, but on May 28, 1930, the company name was changed to Citizen, a name that has remained to this day.
Yesterday, on our wedding anniversary, a pocket watch arrived for my wife, who was looked after by Mr. Inoue.
My wife M is usually very quiet, but when she read the inscription on the pocket watch, she said "Thank you" and gave me a gentle smile.
As an aside, after receiving the pocket watch in the morning, I thought about how we only registered our marriage last year but were unable to hold a wedding ceremony for each other, so in the afternoon I took my wife on the back of my motorbike and headed to a wedding photography studio in Yokohama.
I wanted to dress her in a wedding dress. Of course, my wife brought the pocket watch you sent with her to the studio. It was a wonderful keepsake. Thank you very much.
I am attaching a photo of my wife and me at the studio to Mr. Inoue. It's a bit dark because I used a cell phone camera.
We received a message from KM in Setagaya.
