About EPOS

Swiss brand "Epos" pocket watches have earned high praise for sticking to mechanical movements in an era when quartz (battery) movements are in their heyday.




In 1925, James Aubert, a mechanical watch engineer, founded a watch factory in the Vallée de Joux in Switzerland, known as the birthplace of mechanical watches.

A master of art, he also dedicated himself to the technical development of chronographs and minute repeaters, earning him a reputation as a "specialist in complicated watches." The James Obert Watch Company is the origin of EPOS. Obert passed the reins to his nephew, Jean Obert, and son-in-law, Jean Fillon. Fillon remains EPOS's chief watch engineer to this day.





In the early 1980s, traditional Swiss watch brands were in a state of disarray. New quartz technology was rapidly changing the watch industry. No one wanted to make mechanical watches anymore, and they switched to quartz watches.

Peter Hoffer, a leading figure in the Swiss watch industry, was a rare individual who unwaveringly believed in the future of mechanical watches. Sharing this vision, he and his wife, Erna, founded MontresEPOSSA in 1983, a company specializing in the manufacture of mechanical watches. With his connections to key figures in the Jura Mountains and the Vallée de Joux, where the company was founded, and his knowledge of the global market, Peter Hoffer quickly led his brand to success.
